Frequently Asked Questions
1. CAN I USE THE CARRIER FOR A NEWBORN?
We recommend our carriers for babies older than 4 months. Ring slings are ideal for newborns and can be used to wear your child from baby age throughout toddlerhood.
2. FROM WHAT AGE CAN I BACK CARRY MY CHILD?
Back carries are only suitable for children who are at least 1 year old. Important: Younger kids should be carried in the front, so that the parent can easily monitor their breathing. Keep your Little One close enough to kiss and in view at all times.
3. DO YOU OFFER BODY PANEL INSERTS?
At this time we do not offer any body panel inserts.
4. IS THE BODY PANEL ADJUSTABLE?
5. FOR HOW LONG CAN I USE THE CARRIER?
Our carriers are designed to last for a long time. If the body panel size is chosen correctly, the carrier should last between 1 – 2.5 years, depending on how quickly your child is growing and what their body type is.
6. FOR HOW LONG CAN I WEAR MY BABY?
If the baby remains in a healthy, well supported upright position, you can continue to wear him or her for as long as you are both comfortable. I’m sure that the baby will certainly let you know as soon as they don’t want to be carried anymore 😉 Important: the baby’s knees should be higher than the baby’s bottom, the legs spread out, so that the spine and hips are supported for healthy development.
7. HOW DO I KNOW WHAT SIZE OF THE BODY PANEL I NEED FOR MY BABY?
You can find a detailed guide on how to measure your child and choose a body panel size in the SIZING section on our website.
8. CAN YOU MAKE A NON-STANDARD SIZE OF THE BODY PANEL?
We don’t make mixed body panel sizes. However, we offer a wide range of sizes so surely you will find one to suit your needs. Useful tip: If you wish to have the body panel higher than wider, you may consider adding a headrest to your carrier. It will increase the body panel height by 7 cm (slightly below 3 inches). This option is available only for custom orders.
9. HOW DO I KNOW WHAT LENGTH OF THE STRAPS AND WAIST BAND I NEED?
We can suggest a suitable length of the straps and waistband on the basis of measurements of people wearing the carrier (height, clothes size, and waist measurement). Please note that we can only suggest a suitable length, but we cannot guarantee it will be perfect.
10. CAN I SHARE THE CARRIER WITH MY PARTNER?
Of course. All our carriers are suitable to be shared between parents. Both shoulder straps and waist band are plenty adjustable with black webbing. To buckled straps, you can also add Fit Buckle Adjusters (FBA) for greater comfort and better fit. Long tied straps and waist band can obviously be shared by people of different height and size. Please note that if the height/body size difference between you and your partner is very big, it might not be possible to make a carrier that will fit you both comfortably.
11. WHAT ARE FIT BUCKLE ADJUSTERS?
Fit Buckle Adjusters (FBA) are a fantastic addition to any buckled straps. They allow you to manipulate the length of the padding on the shoulder straps so that you can comfortably wear the carrier on both front and back as well as share the carrier with your partner. The FBA’s also reduce the risk of the straps not being a good fit. Please note that Fit Buckle Adjusters are only available for one sided carriers.
12. CAN THE CARRIER BE WORN ON BOTH FRONT AND BACK?
Yes, all the carriers that we offer can be worn both front (inwards) and back. The one exception might be the Buckle Onbuhimo carrier, which is much more comfortable for back carries. We recommend using it with children who are at least 1 year old.
13. CAN CARRIER BE REVERSIBLE?
Yes, all carriers sewn for special order, except Buckle Onbuhimos can be made reversible.
14. WHAT IS A REVERSIBLE CARRIER?
A reversible carrier can be turned inside out and worn on either side. This means, that you can have two different designs on your carrier, one on the front and one on reverse. We can also make the straps with a different colour on each side to match your chosen designs. Please note there are options and extras which are not available for reversible carriers, such as fit buckle adjusters, hood removable with snaps, hood & headrest combination or waist band pocket. It doesn’t matter if the carrier is one-sided or reversible, it can always be worn on your front and back.
15. WHAT ARE TOP STITCHING LINES ON THE WAIST BAND?
Top stitching lines are a decorative feature for the waistband. We are able to add a maximum of 9 rows of stitching for decoration. A large number of top stitching can make the medium padding stiffer. Firm and combined waistband paddings are well structured and supportive on their own.
16. WHAT IS A HEADREST? IS IT RECOMMENDED?
Headrest is a piece of fabric at the top of a body panel, which helps to support the baby’s head. It is reinforced with a thin layer of padding inside and adds about 3 inches (7 cm) to the height of the body panel. Just like the rest of the panel, it is made of soft fabrics, so it is not stiff or sturdy. When not in use, it can be folded down. The hood alone offers a very good support for the sleepy head of the baby, so the headrest is not obligatory. You may add it to your carrier if your baby is very small and requires additional support of the neck.
17. WHAT ARE THE STRAPS FOR ROLLING UP THE HOOD? HOW ARE THEY DIFFERENT FROM REGULAR HOOD STRAPS?
The straps for rolling up the hood are placed at the very top of the body panel. One strap over the hood, the other one under the hood. You may tie them together if you want to keep the hood nicely folded when you’re not using it. Regular hood straps are hanging on the sides of the hood. You may clip or tie them to the shoulder straps in order to keep the hood secured over baby’s head.
18. ARE THE BUTTERFLY WINGS REMOVABLE?
No. They are sewn to the body panel and therefore are only available for one sided carriers.
19. WHAT IS A CHEST STRAP? IS IT REQUIRED?
Chest strap is a vital component of every buckled carrier, as it keeps the shoulder straps together and prevents them from sliding off your shoulders. The chest strap is not a necessary addition for carriers with long tied shoulder straps (such as Mei Tai, Half Buckle or Onbuhimo).
20. WHAT’S THE DIFFERECE BETWEEN SINGLE AND DUAL ADJUSTABLE BUCKLE? IS WEBBING BETTER THAN COTTON FOR FIT BUCKLE ADJUSTERS AND CHEST STRAP?
Webbing is certainly easier to adjust, so it works very well for all adjustable parts of the carrier, such as chest strap or fit buckle adjusters. However, if you prioritize aesthetics over functionality, you may have these parts of the carrier sewn of our cotton or your wrap, matching to the carrier.
21. IS THE GENTLY CONTOURED WAIST BAND MORE COMFORTABLE THAN WAVY ONE?
No, both styles are equally comfortable. The difference in shape is simply for design purposes.
22. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GLASS PEBBLES AND SILVER BITS?
Glass pebbles resemble little diamonds (they sparkle) and silver bits are more matt, like metal studs.
23. IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE THE WAIST BAND POCKET MADE OF A PRINTED COTTON?
Unfortunately it’s not possible to have the pocket made from a printed fabric. Only plain cotton (same as used for the straps and waist band) is strong and thick enough to be suitable to hold your valuables.
24. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CURVED AND STRAIGHT SHOULDER STRAPS?
Both straps shapes are nicely padded, they don’t rub and give excellent comfort. The curved ones are perfectly fitted to the body shape of the person wearing the carrier. However, they cannot be worn crossed so if you like this style of front carrying, please choose the straight shape instead.
25. WHERE CAN I SEE THE PRINTED FABRICS AVAILABLE?
If you wish to see fabrics available, please simply email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know the sex of your baby and the colours / patterns you like. We will then send you photos of prints you can choose from, that match your taste. You can also browse through our Facebook and Instagram and send us photos of the designs you like. We will then check availability for you.
26. IS IT POSSIBLE TO USE A PRINTED COTTON FOR THE SHOULDER STRAPS AND WAIST BAND?
27. DO YOU OFFER ANY WRAPS FOR CONVERSIONS?
Most conversions are made from wraps that are sent to us by the customers. However, we have a small collection of STRORCHENWIEGE wraps that you can choose from for your carrier.
28. DO YOU CONVERT HANDWOVEN WRAPS?
Yes, handwoven wraps can also be converted. Please only let us know the fabric composition used to weave it, as well as the thickness, tensility and density of the weave. Make sure that your wrap is suitable for conversion prior to sending it to our studio.
29. SHOULD I PREWASH MY WRAP BEFORE SHIPPING, EVEN IF IT IS A BRAND NEW?
We recommend washing the wrap prior to sewing, even if it’s brand new. Some fabrics may shrink or bleed colour with the first washing so it’s best to get that out of the way before your carrier is made.
30. MAY I PROVIDE MY OWN PRINTED COTTON FOR THE CARRIER? HOW LONG DOES IT HAVE TO BE?
Of course, you are always welcome to send in your own fabric. Usually we need about 1.5 yard (1.4 meters) of printed cotton to cover the main body panel and hood. If you wish, you can also send the additional matching print for the inner hood and hood straps. About 0.5 yard (0.5 meter) of that fabric is required for that. Please note that for a larger carrier size or for a carrier with added accessories more fabric might be needed. Please always check with our customer service if you’re unsure if you have enough fabric and make sure that the fabric you are sending is 100% cotton.
31. DO THE CARRIERS MEET SAFETY STANDARDS?
Our carriers are compliant with European Safely Standards PN-EN 13209-2:2006. We are currently looking into obtaining additional certificates as well. By the end of February/beginning of March we will obtain a certificate from an authorized lab.
32. WHAT CURRENCIES DO YOU ACCEPT?
We accept payment via PayPal in the following currencies: PLN (Polish Zloty), GBP (British Pound), USD (US dollars), EUR (Euros), CAD (Canadian Dollars), AUD (Australian Dollars) and NZD (New Zealand Dollars). Payment via bank transfer is only accepted in PLN (Polish Zloty), EUR (Euros) and USD (US Dollars).
33. HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT TO REVEIVE THE CARRIER?
The waiting time for making a custom carrier varies. Once your order is finalized and the payment is made, you will receive an email with the estimated waiting time for your carrier to be made and shipped. If you purchase a ready-made carrier, it is shipped to you as soon as possible, after the payment has been made.
